The Landmark Preservation Commission has rejected landmark status for a Manhattan building near ground zero, paving the way for a mosque and Islamic cultural center to be built on the site. The commission voted 9-0 Tuesday morning. Opponents appealed to the Commission to grant the 152-year-old Park Place building landmark status, which would derail the construction.
